Cars & Code (“we”, “us”) runs carsncode.com. This page explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Newsletter signups. If you subscribe to The Weekly Read, we collect your first name and email address so we can send you the newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email.
- Contact messages. If you email us or submit a form, we receive whatever information you send.
- Server logs. Our hosting automatically records standard request data (IP address, browser, referring page, timestamp) for security and troubleshooting.
- Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how readers use the site — which articles are read, how people arrive, roughly where in the world they are. GA4 sets cookies and processes IP addresses. No personally identifying information is collected by us through analytics.
- Search Console. We use Google Search Console to see how the site performs in Google search. This is aggregated data from Google; it does not place cookies on your device.
Cookies and embeds
- The site uses cookies for essential functions (e.g. keeping admin users logged in) and for analytics (GA4).
- Articles may include embedded YouTube videos. When you play an embedded video, YouTube (Google) may set cookies and collect playback data under its own privacy policy.
- You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Disabling cookies will not break reading articles.
How we use your information
- To send the newsletter you’ve asked for.
- To reply to messages you send us.
- To keep the site running, secure, and improving.
- To understand in aggregate which articles are working and where our readers come from.
We do not sell your information to anyone.
Third parties we share with
- Google — Analytics and Search Console (usage data).
- Our newsletter form (Forminator) stores submissions on our own hosting.
- Our host — standard hosting, caching, and security providers that process site requests.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Ask what personal data we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct or delete it.
- Opt out of the newsletter (use the unsubscribe link, or email us).
- Opt out of analytics (use your browser’s “Do Not Track” setting, a tracker-blocking extension, or Google’s GA opt-out add-on).
To exercise any of these, email us at the address below.
How long we keep data
- Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe.
- Form submissions / emails: as long as needed to respond, then archived or deleted.
- Analytics data: retained per Google Analytics’ default settings.
Children
The site is not aimed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
